About the client:

An autonomous university founded in 1998.,located on the main Gachibowli road (also called the Old Bombay highway)  It was set up as a not-for-proft public private partnership (NPPP) and is the first University to be set up (under this model) in India. The Government of Andhra Pradesh lent support to the institute by grant of land and buildings. A Governing Council consisting of eminent people from academia, industry and government presides over the governance of the institution.

It was set up as a research university focused on the core areas of Information Technology, such as Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, and their applications in other domains. The Institute combines pioneering research with top class education. An innovative curriculum allows the student flexibility in selecting courses and projects.

Scope of work:

  • All computers are part of an intranet (1Gbps Backbone), which connects all buildings, including the hostels.
  • Inter connecting all the departments to enable Gigabit speed across the network using Fiber Optic Cable as a back bone.
  • Wireless  access for the guest user and Notebook users.
Share application and resources across the network.
  • Deploy absolute Security for the Intranet and also secure the Internet access.
  • Providing  load balancing between two ISP’s.
  • Researchers have 24 hours access to the computational facilities.
  • To enable Internet access to all the students
  • VLAN on Building wise to minimize broadcast.
  • Installing  Network monitoring tool.

Our approach:

  • Our layered approach to network security was designed with the knowledge
  • Provide a solution which is technically fit.
  • Easy to deploy and maintain.
  • Ensure investment protection and finally provide a growth path for the network.
  • To ensure that other features like Voice and Video can be integrated on the same platform.

Considerations:

  • A detailed survey of the site was conducted.
  • Distances between the blocks were considered and Fiber Optic Cable to support the Gigabit Speed was considered.
  •  Security Model was discussed with the client before placing the security for the Internet users. We have taken consideration of  the external and internal security theft before implementing the gateway security for the university
  •  All internal cabling was based on CAT 6 Standards and enough redundancy for the spoke cables was considered..
  •  We have adapted three tier architecture for the Switching across the campus network.
  •  Core Switching ( L3),  Distribution Switching (L3),  Access Switching (L2)

The Solution:

  • All Passive components is from Systimax and All Active Electronics from CISCO Systems are deployed.
  • VLAN’s have been created to avoid traffic congestion and intrusion by unauthorized users. Routing in the LAN, defining access controls and providing authentication has been enable on the L3 Switch.
  • IP addressing scheme, NATing and the like features have been added to enable the customer use the network without any hassles.
  • Adaptive Security Appliance to enable Content Filtering, Control of SPAM, Protection against Virus and External Hacking is deployed.
